COMMUNITY ALERT:
Last week we alerted to the fact that L.A. County is trying to purchase and convert the 818 Hotel on Ventura Blvd., across the street from Taft High School, into a homeless facility and our Councilman scrambled to explain that he knew nothing about it (he did). But not once in the meeting did he disclose that for the past few months his staff has been having bi-weekly meetings with the L.A. Housing Department about LAHD purchasing the hotel RIGHT NEXT DOOR.
COMMUNITY ALERT:
Last week many of you were alerted to the fact that L.A. County is trying to purchase and convert the 818 Hotel on Ventura Blvd., across the street from Taft High School, into a homeless facility. At a well attended community meeting our Councilman scrambled to explain that he was as blindsided as we were by the L.A. County Supervisors making this likely purchase.
But not once in the meeting did he disclose that for the past few months his staff has been having bi-weekly meetings with the L.A. Housing Department about LAHD purchasing the hotel RIGHT NEXT DOOR to the 818 Hotel. That's right, the Extended Stay America hotel is also on a list to be purchased and converted into a homeless facility. According to LAHD, the Councilman and his staff have known about it for months. He can't claim he was blindsided on this one.
So now there's not just one, but the possibility of two, homeless facilities being right next door to each other and across the street from Taft HS being very seriously considered.
Had Enough?
The Extended Stay America hotel is being discussed at tomorrow's Homeless and Poverty Committee meeting. Our councilman is on the committee. Call in and let him know what you think about his lack of transparency.
Here's the report from LAHD listing the Extended Stay America hotel among the hotels being considered on Thursday: https://clkrep.lacity.org/.../21-0112_rpt_lahd_02-07-2022...
